First Annual Garifuna Heritage Awards And Cultural Night in New York City A Historic Success.

Audience of The Garifuna Heritage Awards And Cultural Night 2010 in New York City.

Garinagu who braved the rain and wind on Saturday, March 13, 2010 to attend The First Annual Garifuna Heritage Awards & Cultural Night were rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime  show and night of appreciation.

The event took place at The Hostos Center For The Arts & Culture in the Bronx, NY and an almost filled to capacity crowd (the venue seats 900) watched history take place.  The First Annual Garifuna Heritage Awards & Cultural Night marked the FIRST time that representatives of the ENTIRE known diaspora that makes up the Garifuna nation were honored.  In this instance, Garifuna PIONEERS from the countries of St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua were all honored for their accomplishments.

The honorees were:

Mr. PABLO ROBERTO MEJIA–Promoter Of The Development Of The Garifuna Community Of Livingston (LaBuga) in Guatemala.

CRISANTO ARMANDO MELENDEZ–Artistic Director Of The Garifuna National Folklore Ballet Of Honduras

KENSY SAMBOLA–President of The Afro Garifuna Association Of Nicaragua

DAVID WILLAMS/DAVID AUGUSTINE GLASGOW–from The Garifuna Heritage Foundation Of St. Vincent & The Grenadines.

BLANCA ARZU–Branch Manager at Ponce de Leon Federal Bank in New York.

E. ROY CAYETANO–Author Of The People’s Garifuna Dictionary.

The honorees as well as patrons of the event were also treated to performances by Garifuna musicians, dancers and artists from various segments of the Garifuna diaspora.

La HERENCIA primero Anual de GARIFUNA CONCEDE Y la NOCHE CULTURAL En la Ciudad de Nueva York fue un Exito HISTORICO (el 13 de marzo de 2010)

Garinagu que afrontó la lluvia y el viento el sábado, para asistir el 13 de marzo de 2010 Los Primeros Premios de Herencia de Anual Garifuna & la Noche Cultural fue recompensada con un una vez en una exposición de vida y noche de apreciación.

El acontecimiento sucedió en El Centro de Hostos Para Las Artes & la Cultura en el Bronx, NY y un casi llenado a la multitud de la capacidad (el lugar de actuación sienta 900) miró la historia sucede. La Primera Herencia de Anual Garifuna Concede & la Noche Cultural marcó la primera vez que representantes de la diáspora conocida ENTERA que hace la nación de Garifuna fueron honorados. En este caso, Garifuna COLONIZA de los países de Santo Vincente & Las Granadinas, Honduras, Belice, Guatemala, y Nicaragua fue honorada todo para sus logros.

El honorees así como patrocinadores del acontecimiento también fueron tratados a desempeños por músicos de Garifuna, las bailarinas y los artistas de varios segmentos de la diáspora de Garifuna.
