Bronx, New York:  UNDEFEATED Garifuna American Professional Boxer EDDIE GOMEZ is featured in the January 2014 issue of Boxing Magazine, RING Magazine.  UNDEFEATED Welterweight Champion Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr  (deemed ‘pound-for-pound, the best fighter in the world’ by boxing experts) is on the cover of that particular issue.

Mr. Eddie Gomez is featured in a 2 page spread in the New Faces section of the magazine.  In the profile, readers get to learn about Mr. Gomez’s family background, his professional boxing career and future aspirations.  It’s a lovely short read.   Born and raised in the Bronx, both of Mr. Gomez’s parents are Garinagu (“Garifunas/Plural” for Garifuna) from Honduras.

Labeled the “Bible of Boxing”, RING Magazine was founded in 1922 and initially covered both boxing and professional wrestling.  As more people began to question the legitimacy of professional wrestling, RING Magazine shifted it’s focus to professional boxing, where it’s focus has stayed ever since.   RING magazine is currently owned by Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC; which is owned by a group of private investors led by retired professional boxer Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions.   Mr. Eddie Gomez signed to Golden Boy Promotions when he became a professional while still in High School.

Inebesei (“Respect” in the Garifuna Language) to Eddie Gomez, whose next scheduled fight is on January 30th 2014 at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn.  I’ll write more about this fight (which may arguably be Eddie Gomez’s toughest match in his professional boxing career) in a separate post on Beinggarifuna.com .
